Oregano (Origanum) comes from the mint family and native to Mediterranean region. Oregano also known as Wild Marjoram (in Spanish, Oregano means Marjoram) but it has different characteristics than marjoram. It’s strength and flavor vary widely according to the climate where it is grown.
Oregano is an important culinary herb with it’s strong flavor and it can be more flavorful when dried than fresh. Oregano got popular in Italian-American cuisine especially after World War II.
